2001 is the second American rapper and producer Dr. Dre's studio album. It was released by Interscope Records on November 16, 1999, as the follow-up to The Chronic, his 1992 debut album.

Dr. Dre and Mel-Man, as well as Lord Finesse, recorded the album mainly, and features many guest appearances from fellow American rappers such as The D.O.C., Hittman, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Xzibit, Eminem, and Nate Dogg. 2001 demonstrates an extension of Dre 's debut G-funk sound which incorporates elements of gangsta rap, such as aggression, promiscuity, drug use, street gangs, prostitution, hatred which crime.

The album released three singles: 'Still D.R.E.', 'Forgot About Dre' and 'The Next Episode.' Other songs were not formally released as singles, 'Fuck You,' 'Let's Get Big,' 'What's the Difference' and 'Xxplosive,' but earned some radio airplay that resulted in them charting in the Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Singles & Songs.

In October 1999, 'Still D.R.E.' was released as the lead single. On the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at number 93, on the Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks at number 32, and reached number 11 on the Hot Rap Singles. In March 2000, it reached number six on the UK Single Chart. The song was nominated for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2000 Grammy Awards, but lost to 'You Got Me' by The Roots and Erykah Badu.

'Forgot About Dre' was released in 2000 as the second single, and it was a success on several charts, like the previous single. It reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 14 on the Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks and number 3 on the Rhythmic Top 40.

In June 2000, it reached number seven on the UK Single Chart. The MTV Video Music Award for Best Rap Video in 2000 went to the accompanying music video. The single at the 2001 Grammy Awards won Dr. Dre and Eminem Best Rap Album by a Duo or Group.
